Don't know how true this is. Don't know if it applies to other kinds of noodles/pasta too. Read it here so thought of sharing. Can someone confirm? The Foodie Physician, what do you think?

BEWARE MAGGI LOVERS: COOKING MAGGI IN WRONG WAY IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR HEALTH.
Many of us can't live without " Maggi " especially when one is away from home, in a foreign land. Here is a piece of information to share so that we can remove the potential health hazard of consuming Maggi.
DO NOT IGNORE THIS ... Especially those fond of Maggi...
CORRECT WAY OF COOKING NOODLES
Normally, how we cook the instant noodles is to put the noodles into a pot with water, throw in the powder and let it cook for around 3 minutes and then it's ready to eat. This is the WRONG method of cooking the instant noodles. By doing this, when we actually boil the ingredients in the powder, normally with MSG, it will change the molecular structure of the MSG, causing it to be toxic.
The other thing that you may or may not realize is that, the noodles are coated with wax and it will take around 4 to 5 days for the body to excrete the wax after you have eaten the noodles.
CORRECT METHOD:
1. Boil the noodles in a pot of water.
Dietician's Note:
A large number of patients with ages ranging from 18-24 years are ending up with pancreatitis either as a swelling or infection of the pancreas due to regular consumption of instant noodles. If the frequency is more than 3 times a week, then it is very hazardous.

oh.. I didn't know this and have cooked it the wrong way all along.. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteYes, MSG is not a good thing for sure. Though Maggi does not have MSG (Flavor Enhancer 621), but it has Flavor Enhancer 635 which is not good, too. These flavor additives can lead to several symptoms in your body, from a simple itchy rash to life threatening conditions, if you are allergic to them. Doctors always advice one to avoid 'Maggi' and any Canned/instant food, even market pickles and ketchups in pregnancy, because they can trigger multiple food intolerance in the unborn babies. I always advice people to live more on natural foods, rather than these so-called 'tasty foods with artificial flavors/enhancers'. You should ideally avoid all instant and packed/canned foods, esp. with flavor enhancers 631, 635, 627 and MSG 621).
ReplyDeleteOh boy, that's a lot of good information. Thanks for sharing, Anjali!
DeleteFor your kind information, flavor enhancers 631, 635 is being obtained from Fish

Erivum Puliyum
This is so scary, kids especially love noodles..
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing dear... didnt know this till today
ReplyDeleteomg, i had absolutely no idea! wax & msg... n i have probably hogged 50 kilos of maggi till date! wish i knew all this before :(
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with Anjali Bapna Shukla about the unhealthy properties of MSG and other artificial flavor enhancers. As far as them being converted into toxic chemicals upon boiling, I can not specifically comment on this. However I do have a link to an amazing (and disturbing) video about how our bodies digest (or more accurately can't digest) the wax coated noodles. Bottomline, these products (Maggi/Ramen) are definitely not doctor recommended!

I too read that about maggi, I don't know if it's true but why take the risk.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to leave a comment on your koKo kokonut cake but I am not able to even see the comment form. You might want to check that.
Well I am really excited to see that recipe coz its vegan n my husband loves coconut. I'll try it soon . :)
Good read for me...
ReplyDeleteThought provoking for sure. Did you know fried chicken also has MSG as flavouring. They used to put it on their packaging, but don't anymore.
ReplyDeleteI'm a vegetarian and didn't know about that ... but I hope other people reading this would take note!
DeleteThanks La :)
Just read this post. few years ago, I had made Mama noodles (Thai instant noodles), with the intention of making a stir fried version. I drained the water probably from 2 packets of noodles. I forgot to throw the water immediately. I came back to the kitchen a couple of hours later and was shocked to see that the drained out water was actually a semi-solid wax like substance. It was terrible and that is how I started finding out more about the wax on instant noodles. I drastically reduced my consumption of any instant noodles. Now, I have it may be once or twice a month at best.
ReplyDeleteGosh, so it's not just Maggi! Thanks for the valuable input about the Mama noodles, Vishakha.
DeleteWhat a load of bollocks. Lets see some authentic research to support these unbiased claims. On one hand you have a good few people who have eaten it 'the wrong way' and showed no sympotoms and on the other is a 'doctor' sharing opinion, rumour and hearsay as facts!
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing but a HOAX!! Check it out...
