Fairy Tale Reversed at Botanic Garden

We went to Fort Worth Botanic Garden one weekend.

"The oldest botanic garden in Texas, a 109-acre living museum displaying over 2500 species of native and exotic plants." ~ http://fwbg.org

We didn't get to see as many beautiful gardens as displayed on their website, I wonder where they were, but whatever we saw was average.  After roaming around the gardens, we went to the "Butterfly Exhibit" - the main reason we were there for.

The covered and humidity controlled environment especially created for this exhibit looked amazing.  The greenery, water fountain, and everything else was incredible.  Though we didn't spot as many butterflies as we were expecting from a "butterfly exhibit".

Love how birds and animals are created in a way that they can camouflage?  Makes it more fun to try to spot them.  Of course, makes it bloody scary too; to see them in places least expected =)

Most butterflies had torn wings, poor guys.  I was told butterflies grow old, just like humans, and this is what happens to them.  On the other hand, I wondered if was it because they were imported from several countries, and lost their wings because of mishandling.

I was fascinated at how the butterflies feed on fruits.  How much can they put into their little mouth with their needle-thin hands?  Do they fight over "this is my fruit" or "I came here first"?  Such beautiful, peaceful, and silent creatures.  (I wish Alok had the last two characteristics *sigh*)

Verdict:  I may be biased toward the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens because the weather was cool, windy and perfect on that day in the month of May 2011.  But it was really warm and annoying on this day of April 2012 when we visited Fort Worth Gardens.  Besides, these gardens looked quite dry and dull.  Plus, we didn't go prepared any blanket/mat or food and drink with us.  So not only was the weather bad, but my tummy was also grumbling.  Yes, you can tell I'm annoyed.

But then, on the way out, something finally made me smile.

Because the fairy tale reversed:  my prince charming turned into a frog  ;-)
